My take on the latest consumer marketing campaigns, mobile marketing campaigns, online buzz, and what works vs. what doesn't.

The NEW Daily Rage!

One of our newest clients, Riddle Productions, recently launched an all-new daily interactive game called Daily Rage! in conjunction with MTV.com. Riddle is also known for its many online adventure-based games such as two-time Emmy nominated interactive Web series Stranger Adventures.

Besides the actual game-play being engaging with daily cash prizes and a monthly jackpot, Daily Rage! has an interesting business angle. Advertisers have the ability to run branded campaigns in and around the game, even integrating it into the actual game play, communicating brand and product value.

This new partnership with MTV.com is a result of the successes of the previous beta version of Daily Rage!, and the game provides emotionally driven content to create a positive connection between players and brands via enhanced flash environments.

Supported by MTV.com on-air and online promotions, Daily Rage! features a new daily game environment revolving around MTV Networks’ programming line-up, pop culture and music. A team of talented flash animators compose backdrops, scenarios and environments that offer user interactivity throughout these one of a kind gaming worlds.

This new game is no where near as good as the old Daily Rage they had.  This new game is boring and has no challenge to it.  Also a lot and I mean alot of the players from the last Daily Rage game have not been paid their winnings yet.  It was supposed to be 60 days and you receive your check.. so far it has been over 90 days and I still haven't received mine.  They (Daily Rage) claim no funds for sending checks.  Several people have had their prize checks to bounce.  So I would be curious to see if any of these new winners are actually getting a prize!! I'm still waiting on mine and losing hope on ever getting it.

I too feel that the new game is an insult to the intelligence.  The prior version of the game at least had a skill level to it.  I also am a previous wunner still awaiting payment.  It is quite unsettling to find tht Riddle Productions can hire a marketing team, yet cannot manage to pay out the $45,000.00 owed to winner (and that is just the ones that should have been paid so far).  Representatives of Riddle Productions have given me nothing but lies and excuses.  The people who helped to make rage popular want their winnings - now (if it is due), not excuses, not a bunch of advertising about how great the game is - because it isn't.  There are already people who are filing with Arbitration & will follow up with a court suit if they don't see their money soon.  If the management of Riddle Productions can't get their act together - quickly - the next news release will be the bankruptcy filing.

I think FormerDailyRager says it in a nutshell...I call them every week, I get the same ole BS about how they have to transfer funds from one acct to another, and it'll be another 2 wks.  Yet I just read elsewhere that they have paid some of the past (Nov) winners.  Reading this makes me aware how they can pay for a marketing team to sell the game to people who don't have the brainpower to understand that this new game is terrible.  The FTC and other government officials are now aware of Riddle productions practices and are investigating.  I just hope I get my money before the bankruptcy....

I can"t believe you are here griping about the game being so bad, and that DR has done you so wrong yet your names are on the winner list every day. for someone that's upset about not getting there money and wanting to file arbitration why in the world would you still be trying to win the 1,000 everyday????? and in the next breath say its a insult to the intelligence? formerdailyrager???? don't sound like it to me if your playing everyday. And what really gets me is your here saying people don't have the brainpower to understand that this new game is terrible WHAT A INSULT! But then i guess it means you don't have the brainpower to know either cause your playing everyday too.And you said your self you read somewhere they ARE paying some of the nov winners so looks to me like your just tring to stir problems for the company cause you haven't got your yet.But if you and others don't get the money they will have you to thank for all the garbage you are stiring up.

I am glad to see that someone besides us old faithfuls is reading this...You know why I play (and I never denied that I didn't) si the same reason you do--for the MONEY.  Did you play the old game?  Comparatively, the new game sucks.  Also, when we signed up (which i assume you did too) we checked a little box for reading/understanding terms of service, privacy also.  Each time you play the game, (and I mean play, not look at), you are automatically placed under a contract.  I haven't broken the contract, they did, when they didn't honor it by nonpayment.

Stirring up garbage?  That's your opinion.  I just want to let people know that you fight for what is right.  And you stand up for yourself, and take personal responsibility, which, in my book, they haven't.  I have waited 120 (twice as long as they said it would take)days for my winnings)that was promised to me, and now, after investigating RP, am I pissed.

I too am waiting for both checks for winning last november. I too have gotten emails stating two weeks but those have come and gone. It is now over 120 days for me. I believed in them when I agreed to their terms.  I had won before playing Ian Hollister and got my money in the right amount of time so I had no reason to not believe that I would get it this time. I am still praying that I do get my checks.  I have no reason to think other wise and will continue to email them.  If I don't get them, then I will figure out my next step. As for this daily rage game format, it is boring but again I will continue to play because I have been loyal. I certainly understand everyones anger about not getting checks. I am just not going to worry about it anymore.  I will give them the benefit of the doubt and continue to believe that they will honor their agreement with all of the winners.

Thanks ragers for all of the input.

We monitor all posts, take them very seriously, and want to make sure we're providing the best possible Daily Rage entertainment experience - which includes getting prize money distributed to our winners in a timely manner. There is a comprehensive compliance and verification system we must use which can sometimes extend the payout time line. (For more details and inquiries, check out the updated FAQ page and updated contact information www.dailyrage.com)

Riddle Productions has paid out more than $175,000 in prize money to contestants of our games through March, 2007.  We're looking forward to awarding even more cash & prizes to our players as Daily Rage! continues to evolve.

We appreciate your patience and participation.

If you have paid out over $175,000 in prizes, then where is my two checks?  I read the faq page long ago, and I fulfilled my part of the verification...Within the 7 day time limit too.  I have receipts of the signatures of the people who signed for my paperwork; I saved every piece of info.

I have contacted you by email and phone, and rec'd the same responses--all we need to do is transfer funds from one acct to another; you should receive your money in two weeks, to name a few.  I have heard these responses since Jan. 22, the day after my second win.  Now the money owed is $2000....

But they haven't paid out that much money yet.  All 3 Stranger Adventure games equalled $105,000 in prizes - many checks had bounced, but they were made good, credit where credit is due.

Daily Rage betas had prizes totaling approximately $50,000 with approx. $32,000 yet to be paid out.

    So do the math, $155,000 - $32,000 = $123,000, not $175,000.

Maybe the lack of math skills is why they can't manage the books properly and pay the winners on a timely basis.

total of SA games i will agree with you on $105,000 but the total for DR games is more like $45,000 and thats just the daily game the monthly winners total is $31,508 so that looks to me like they know what there talking about. so maybe you need to check your own math skills before you say someone else don't have math skills.

Perhaps "Daily Rage Team Lies" should check their own math skills.

There were 5 months of DR Beta Games with 30 Daily Winners of $1,000 in each month. When I went to school 5 x 30 x $1000 = $150,000. There was also a monthly winner for each of the 5 months that totaled a little over $31,500. So, for the Daily Rage Beta Games, Riddle Productions offered prizes totaling a little over $181,500. Combined, Riddle productions has offered approximately $286,500 in prize money for their games.

I'm pretty sure that all the Daily Rage Beta winners through 10/15/06 have been paid which is $45,000 plus $5,900 for the September monthly winner. Add that to the $105,000 for the Stranger Adventure Games and that totals $160,900.

If all the rest of the October Daily Rage Beta winners have been paid, that would be $15,000 plus $5,600 for the monthly winner. Add that to the $160,900 and that would be $181,500 (which is more than $175,000). That leaves a balance of approximately $105,000 yet to be paid to the Daily Rage Beta winners.

There seems to be an awfully lot of bashing going on, and perhaps some of it is deserved. I for one, would prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and am willing to wait for any prize money due me rather than taking up their time and money with arbitrations, lawsuits and investigations. It seems that's a sure way for no one to get paid.

I've played almost of the games offered by Riddle Productions since February of last year. IMHO, the Daily Rage Beta games were far better than the new Daily Rage on MTV. However, the current game format is a better fit to the MTV Audience.

However, best offerings by Riddle Productions were the Stranger Adventure weekly games in Feb, Mar and Apr of 2006. This was a completely different platform with more interaction with the characters and some very mind-stimulating clues to solve. Two of the Stranger Adventure games were nominated for Emmys. Hopefully, they will bring this type of game back. To find out more about the Stranger Adventure games, check out <A

Yes, I made a huge error in forgetting the last '0' on the monthly awards, thank you for the correction, but again, you help to prove my point.

The Rage Team claims to have paid out $175,000 for their games, but that still leaves $111,500 yet to be paid.  The last beta game was in January, so according to RP's rules, almost all the winners should have been paid by now, but a deficit of $111,500 leaves a lot of unpaid players/winners.  And that is just going by the estimates provided by SADRFan, not including the rest of the October 2006 winners which may or may not have been paid yet.

I can understand loyalty to a game & it's producers, what I can't understand is the apathy from those loyal fans for the extremely poor business practices being presented by RP.  God business would be - if you offer a sweepstakes/contest, you put the prize money into an escrow account to ensure that the winners get paid.  Good business practice also calls for an independant authority to do the actual winners selection & overview the distribution of prizes from the escrow account.  RP does neither of these, yet vocal people here seem to think that it is okay for them to present such bad business practices & still have support from the player base.

Something is very wrong with this picture.

To Rage Gamer, how often are you reading those rules & FAQ's - have you noticed that they have changed at least twice since the game started on MTV?  They are not the same rules that were in effect during the Beta, and also did you notice that you must supply a referral to get into the monthly drawing?  I wouldn't send an enemy, much less a friend, to this new version of the game.  Oh yes & now, this changed in the last week, if you don't use your gems, just save them, you can get onto the leaderboard for entries into the monthly drawing.

Just how would you describe changing the rules of the game no less than 3 times in as many weeks?  Do you consider that good business practice?
    March 25, 2007 23:57
  • Rage Gamer said:

from what i understood from the e-mail we got from D/R the beta games were over. so the rules for the old beta wouldn't apply to the new Daily Rage unless that's what they wanted them to be.As for the monthly draw you can use your gems to move up on the leader board and get entries into the monthly draw or use referrals or do a mail in so there are several ways to get into the monthly draw without refering anyone.
    March 26, 2007 00:11
  • Daily Rage Team Lies said:

Rage Gamer, I must not have made myself clear.  The first day the game began, the rules were essentially the same the only notable change was the collection of gems and combination entries to gain more entries in the daily drawing & all daily entries would go into the monthly.  Then that changed & it became referrals only for monthly drawing, then that changed & it is now referrals or leaderboard for entries - the mail in has always been an option.

My point was, they have changed the rules of play 3 times in as many weeks, it was not that I didn't understand the rules, I understand them very well.

You still didn't answer my questions though, so let me repeat them...

When rules change so quickly, there has to be a reason.  Maybe us complaining, and pointing out, that the game sucks, problems with checks, and getting authorities interested in RP/DR has something to do with it.  If so, good.  That means they know we are serious, and not just blowing smoke.

Once again, questionable practices are happening at the Daily Rage game.  Have you noticed the "promise" of monthly drawing entries for being on the leaderboard, yet, if you refer back to the official rules, you only get 1 entry into the monthly drawing per valid, activated referral.  Looks like another official rule change is due, and if they don't change the rules - yet again - then they are lying somewhere.

Of course, restricting the monthly drawing to referrals only is absolutely ingenious, players have no way of keeping a record of who has valid referrals and since Riddle Productions has no independent authority overseeing the drawings & distribution of prizes, they could pick the name of a friend to win and no one could be able to dispute it.

But of course, there will still be a few of you who will believe anything Riddle Productions tell you, no matter how much evidence is placed in front of you proving that something just isn't right here.

I can honestly see the frustration, and understand it completely.  We, the beta testers, went all the way with Riddle...we only want THE BEST... this MTV thing is good for MTV..good for pockets of the corporate and good for Riddlepro...the artists are AS ALWAYS amazing... thank you Nathan..but the faithful that have stayed with the games for over a year are disappointed.. it would be different if we had been warned of a change of format..we could have made an educated objective choice... one day we came on to play and write on the forum and poof...nothing.. it was all gone... and came back as MTV.. (okay, so I watch Rob Zombie, Saliva, and PaPa Roach..thank you for the videos MTV) but it doesn't mean I wanted to see a beautifully crafted game sold to the highest bidder... I was a December winner. I should have received my check(according to their own rules)  mid February. It's now been 6 months. I've been getting the same response since mid February, "we are just getting to the November checks now, it should be a few more weeks". I too enjoyed the game much more before it switched to MTV. It was more challenging and not such a game of chance. I no longer play the game. For one, its not fun anymore. For two, they don't pay as promised. I think they need a new accountant. I have thought of legal action myself, however, the fees would probably be more than I won.

I am very disappointed in RP. I have been playing since the 2nd stranger adventure game, in which I was a winner. That time I received my check just as promised, in the time promised. It seems to me they got too big for their britches. Why would any company promise to pay all this money that they obviously can't pay. I don't see MTV sponsoring them much longer.
